(Español / English) Una angustiante reconstrucción de la identidad Sumario: Oxígeno es mucho más que un film sobre el encierro o un mero ejercicio claustrofóbico que transcurre en tiempo real: es una elegía espacial que nos habla de la indisoluble relación entre la identidad y la memoria, de la angustiosa reconstrucción de esta última y que al mismo tiempo que luce elegantes y sobrios dispositivos high-tech, prodiga momentos de una inefable poesía y más de una epifanía. Es otra de esas películas con muchos méritos (e innegables filiaciones) que en lugar de analizarla por lo que es, algunos critican por lo que no es o por lo que “debería ser”. Reseña: La película comienza con Elizabeth Hansen (Mélanie Laurent) “despertando” en una cápsula criogénica que cuenta con un asistente médico virtual llamado M.I.L.O (en la voz de Mathieu Amalric) que le informa que por un desperfecto técnico los niveles de oxígeno del módulo están descendiendo constantemente. Oxígeno es otra de esas películas con muchos méritos que en lugar de analizarla por lo que es, algunos critican por lo que no es o por lo que debería ser según ellos o establecen comparaciones o filiaciones superficiales con otras. Se trata de un filme de ciencia ficción intimista donde la protagonista debe enfrentar una situación inicial de confusión absoluta (no sabe quién es, ni dónde está ni por qué), como si su despertar fuese un nuevo nacimiento, una crisálida tratando de salir de su encierro. Por eso Oxígeno es mucho más que un film sobre el encierro o un mero ejercicio claustrofóbico. La película transcurre en tiempo real dentro de la cápsula y constituye para la protagonista un extenuante ejercicio de reconstrucción de su identidad a partir de la memoria (con sus pantallazos de exterior), interactuando con el amable pero implacablemente algorítmico M.I.L.O (reminiscente del HAL de 2001 pero también de los asistentes virtuales actuales) El director Alexandre Aja sabe sacarle el máximo partido al logrado diseño de la cápsula y hábilmente no incurre en repeticiones (filmar en una locación tan estrecha es todo un desafío) contando para ello con la gran actuación de Laurent (en un verdadero tour de force actoral). Si hemos de buscarle filiaciones, yo señalaría a Gravity y a 7500 (que transcurre casi íntegramente en una cabina de avión) y otras que no puedo revelar, si bien en este caso las coordenadas son claramente de ciencia ficción futurista. Hay en esta película una cierta poesía inefable y más de un momento epifánico, ayudados por la notable música electrónica de ROB. Es inevitable pensar en Buried, aquella de Ryan Reynolds bajo tierra, pero aquí el enfoque es distinto. Más tecnológico, más frío, más cercano a la ciencia ficción que al puro thriller de supervivencia. Lo que funciona desde el principio es la tensión. Alexandre Aja demuestra que no necesita grandes escenarios para generar angustia. La cámara se mueve con inteligencia dentro de un espacio mínimo y consigue que ese entorno reducido nunca resulte visualmente plano. Hay ritmo, hay urgencia, y la sensación de que el oxígeno —literal y narrativamente— puede agotarse en cualquier momento. Gran parte del mérito es de Mélanie Laurent. Sostener casi toda la película desde un único encuadre exige una presencia enorme, y ella la tiene. Transmite vulnerabilidad, desconcierto y determinación sin caer en el exceso.
